Despite reports that Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S5 has not performed as well as its predecessor, the Galaxy S4, the South Korean tech giant released another smartphone under the S5 lineup- the S5 Plus.
The Galaxy S5 Plus was made available in different models. In Europe, for instance, model number SM-G901F will be released. Customers in Netherlands can get their hands on the handset for €600. On eBay Germany, the device was already introduced with a starting price of €400, as reported by International Business Times.
The Galaxy S5 Plus has an upgraded chipset -- the Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 with a Quad-core Krait 450 processor. This takes the smartphone a notch higher than the S5 and its Snapdragon 802 chipset. The Galaxy S5 Plus' CPU also has a clock speed of 2.5 GHz.
With the use of the increasingly popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, the Galaxy S5 Plus is expected to compete with devices that have the same powerful chipset. These include the Motorola Droid Turbo, Google Nexus 6 and LG G3, among others.
Additionally, the S5 Plus offers LTE-Advanced or 4G+ support, allowing users to utilize and enjoy data speed of up to 300 Mbps. This is quite an improvement compared to the regular LTE supported by the S5, which offers 50 Mbps of mobile data speed.
Running the Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the Galaxy S5 Plus comes with 2GB of RAM, 16 or 32GB of internal storage and support for MicroSD cards of up to 128GB. Aside from having a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display with 1080 x 1920 resolution, the S5 Plus also features a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel front snapper.
Other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi. Battery life can last up to 21 hours as it has a 2800 mAh battery cell. Standby time can last up to 390 hours.
The S5 Plus is expected to be in a strong competition with the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, which have 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina displays, respectively. These three smartphones have slim and sleek designs as well.
