Sony recently introduced its latest line of Ultra High Definition TVs for 2015 in which the company puts forward new image processing chips and the use of the Android TV platform.
With four new series, 10 UHD models are being offered that range from 43 to 75 inches. Sony has also incorporated the new 4K Processor X1 into all of the panels, giving the TVs added capacity for color enhancement and photo clarity.
Leading this new line of TVs is the XBR X900C Series 4K Ultra HD TV that is available in 55 and 65-inch variants as well as the X910C that measures 75 inches.
According to Sony, viewers can now have access to over 1,300 films, TV shows and other similar content in UHD through Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and Video Ultimate 4K.
Moreover, the latest line of TVs will feature the company's own "4K X-Reality PRO" upscaling algorithm technology. This will enable users to enjoy a high quality display even for non-4K content or standard definition video.
The 65-inch XBR-X930C Series and 75-inch X940C come with the same 4K Processor X1 and emphasize their audio components, particularly with their dynamic front-facing speakers, complete with woofers, sub-woofers and tweeters.
Several introductory TVs in the 4K line include the XBR-X850C that are being offered in 55, 65 and 75-inch models and is expected to come with the new processor, which will enable it to significantly boost its own Triluminous display.
In addition, the introductory 4K XBR-X830C Series that comes in 43 and 49-inch models also have the 4K Processor X1 engine and come with Android TV.
Sony also preferred to have the entire line of TVs run on Android TV, a platform from Google that was introduced at the Google IO in 2014. With such choice, the TVs are expected to demonstrate smart functionality, support multiplayer gaming and offer direct access to streaming services.
In addition, the TVs will also have Google Cast that will enable users to stream content from their devices to the big screen.
Interestingly, Sony is offering access to its PlayStation Now paid subscription service when purchasing any of the models in the newest line of UHD TVs. As such, these sets can be connected with a Dualshock 4 controller and have special PlayStation 3 games streamed from the cloud.
These latest TVs also come with highly improved aesthetics as the XBR X900C will be the thinnest TV ever from Sony, even slimmer than an Xperia smartphone. This will then allow users to enjoy an edge-to-edge viewing experience, thanks to its 4.9 mm size.
This new UHD TV line is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2015. Sony has yet to announce pricing details.
