Ukraine separatism
A great number of pro-Russian separatists have recently been moving to seize control of Ukraine's infrastructure starting from the eastern city of Donetsk. The aggressive rebels have already been gaining a great deal of support from the eastern Ukrainian population and the government has requested that the United Nations send peace keeping troops to stabilize the situation.
The separation and internal conflict is especially serious because over a third of the population lives in the eastern parts of the country where the separatists are most active. Over a hundred rebels were seen protesting before a police station demanding that their respective regions be annexed by Russia like Crimea a few weeks ago.
It has even been reported that the rebels have declared eastern Ukraine "People's Republic of Donetsk". Tensions in the state have risen even greatly after the representatives of their new "government" have come into contact with Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia to send armed forces to occupy the areas.
Oleksandr Turchnov, the acting president of Ukraine is continually trying to find a diplomatic solution to the internal crisis by negotiating with the rebels. Although it is believed that Ban Ki-Moon, the U.N. Secretary General to discuss the possibility of dispatching peace keeping troops to Ukraine, there is a high chance that Russia will use its authority to veto the proposal, preventing the U.N. Security Council to deter the separatists and/or even deter further Russian annexation of Ukrainian territory.
Acting president Turchnov in fact, stated to Secretary General Ban that Russia has the intention of conquering all of Ukraine as well as Crimea. However, the Putin administration denied such a plan.
It has already been a week since the initial uprising began in eastern Ukraine. More recently the rebels have been amassing weapons in order to take control of government and administrative buildings. There are some experts who went as far as to claim that Russia is directly involved in this movement.
