The couple behind "The Bible" and "A.D." is set to embark on another television project entitled "Unveiled" on NBC.
Roma Downey and Mark Burnett will be creating another one-hour drama based on "flawed guardian angels" who attempt to change the lives of people who are currently suffering from different problems. It is said to be inspired by the hit 90's drama "Touched By An Angel," which propelled Downey to fame with her role as the kind-hearted angel Monica. It earned the actress both an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award.
Unveiled, which will premiere sometime late 2015 to 2016, will be produced by Universal Television and LightWorkers Media. Burnett and Downey will serve as executive producers, alongside John Sakmar (Boston Public) and Kerry Lenhart (The Glades, Psych, Boston Public), who will also write the pilot episode.
For the meantime, Downey and Burnett are preparing for the release of the 12-hour mini series A.D. It will pick up where The Bible left off and will focus on the first ten chapters of the Book of Acts, and will explore the aftermath of Christ's death and its impact on His disciples as well as his mother, Mary, and other key political figures of the time.
Burnett cannot help but express thanks to God for the production of A.D at the Television Critic's Association Winter TV Press Tour 2015.
"We couldn't make it any faster," he said. "We are people of deep faith and I believe God's hands are all over it. I believe it was always intended to premiere on Easter Sunday."
Downey echoed her husband's sentiments and said that there is a demand now for faith-based film and shows. "It's the perfect launch day, isn't it? We just know there's a hunger for this kind of material. People are hungry for stories of faith and A.D., we believe, will satiate that hunger," she said.
Aside from A.D., NBC is also expecting Heart Matters, a medical soap from Private Practice star Amy Brenneman. It will be under the helm of executive producers Brad Silberling and Jill Gordon (My So-Called Life and The Wonder Years).
The series will be all about a talented female heart transplant surgeon who tries to balance her work with her even more complicated romantic and personal life. Susan Carlson, Eric Carlson, Kelly Meyer and Kathy Magliato will serve as co-executive producers, while Gordon will write the pilot. The project will be from Universal Television.
