The second part of Hunger Games: Mockingjay plot will soon hit the big screen not only with fresh adventures to be undertaken by the lead actors but also a potential redirection of the story to reportedly showcase more of the romantic relationship between Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, according to a report in Venture Capital Post.
Katniss, the character played by Jennifer Lawrence, and Peeta, the role portrayed by Josh Hutcherson, have been hailed as the main heroes of the series. Apart from their role as the lead protagonists, the duo are also considered as the power couple in the films. Their relationship stemmed from their fake romantic involvement in the first installment of the franchise, which eventually led to a deeper connection between the two.
Although their romance was barely focused on in the bestselling novels written by Suzanne Collins, Lions Gate CEO Jon Feltheimer disclosed that the studio is seriously considering shedding some light on the muddled relationship of the two. The executive also added that the storyline will provide more details on the lives of the other characters involved in the series. However, Feltheimer was quick to clarify that the integration of the additional details into the plot would be done in accordance with the Collins' original idea.
Meanwhile, a report from Deadline revealed that Feltheimer is "actively looking at some development and thinking about prequel and sequel possibilities" for the series. This news came after the confirmation that the second installment of the Mockingjay plot will be the final story of the series. Hence, the studio's executive are determining the feasibility of remastering the film for IMAX 3D in time for its premiere on November 20.
"Fans will now have the chance to see the film in any format they want, which is exciting," shared Francis Lawrence, the director of the films. "We recently saw the 3D version of Mockingjay - Part 1 before its release in China, and the new level of immersion was really fantastic," he added.
In addition, the CEO of IMAX Entertainment, Greg Foster, disclosed that the company witnessed the "truly remarkable" eagerness shown by the fans as well as the "cultural impact that the series has generated." With these observations, he remarked that they are "thrilled to offer audiences the opportunity to experience the last chapter in IMAX 3D."
Apart from Lawrence and Hutcherson, Mockingjay Part 2 will also feature Liam Hemsworth, Julianne Moore, Sam Claflin, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. The film is directed by Francis Lawrence.
