After Lupita Nyong'o's remarkable rise to fame following her award-winning performance in '12 Years A Slave' from 2013, the 31-year-old actress has also been recognized for her natural beauty and exquisiteness.
In the March issue of Lucky Magazine, the Mexican-Kenyan star opens up about beauty the regimens in their household, or the lack of it, years before she began in the film industry.
"My mother has never ever worn a drop of makeup in her life- not even at her wedding," Nyong'o shared. "Honestly, my mother's outlook was hard for me to take when I was a teenager and wanted to experiment. But in the end I appreciated, because today I can look in a mirror with no makeup on and love myself."
According to the "Non-Stop' actress, the only time she was able to use makeup was when her aunt brought in the goods when her mother was not around. As much as she wanted to use makeup in her younger years, Nyong'o admitted that she looks at it now as merely an extra element to boost one's beauty.
"My mother didn't think makeup was necessary, and I don't think it's necessary," she said. "It's an accessory. It's as necessary as a pair of earrings, if you know what I mean. It's something I do to adorn myself. I don't do it to hide myself."
Nyong'o posted a photo on Instagram last Monday that compared her own face to her mother's, showing how similar the two women's features are.
"Like mother (1983), like daughter (2015). #behindthescenes @luckymagazine @lancomeusa #OhToBeHalfTheWomanMyMumIs #bts," the actress wrote in the caption.
As the latest cover of Lucky Magazine, Nyong'o glows with her glossy nude lip and a vibrant two-piece outfit by Balmain. The Lancome spokesmodel is also shown in an image as she walks towards a pool dressed in a bright yellow frock and blue accessories.
When it comes to her top choice in beauty products, she pointed towards the importance of loving one's lips. "I always have a [Lancome] Lip Lover, in one shade or another, in my purse," she emphasized. "They just add a little bit of szoozh. I'll choose the color depending on what I'm wearing and how much tint I want."
For the actress' future projects, Nyong'o has been keeping her hands full as she works on Disney's remake of "The Jungle Book', lending her voice for the character Raksha. She has also been cast in the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens' to be released this year.
