Gone are the days of damsels in distress. During these modern times, the women can fight their own battles and sometimes, do the saving themselves!

In the recent Cinderella movie trailer provided by Disney Pictures, Lily James' Cinderella defiantly tells her stepmother Lady Tremaine, "I will protect the prince from you no matter what becomes of me."

The live-action movie is set to invade the big screen next month, and Disney gives ample teases of the film in the trailer shared by E! Online.

It shows the first meeting of Cinderella and Prince Charming played by Richard Madden, and it's not in the castle. The two actually met in the forest, while the prince was out hunting where he made Cinderella believe that he's a palace employee named Kit instead of a prince.

"Just because it's what's done doesn't mean it should be done," she tells the prince about her disdain for hunting. Despite just insulting his favourite hobby, it seems like Prince Charming is highly enamoured by Cinderella's opinionated views, kind heart, and beauty.

"I hope to see you again, miss," he later tells her.

Singer Ellie Goulding's "My Blood" plays throughout the trailer, which later introduces Cinderella's manipulating stepmother played by actress Cate Blanchett.

Lady Tremaine is bent on putting her two daughters on the throne, and she doesn't mind one bit if Cinderella gets caught in between her ambition. And when Cinderella and the prince fall in love, Lady Tremaine gets even more ruthless.

The trailer proves that Disney's new version of the classic tale offers a lot of news twists. The Cinderella here is no pushover as she set out to save the prince from her scheming family. Prince Charming's father, the King, even teams up with Lady Tremaine just to get Cinderella out of the way.

While Cinderella seems more than capable of battling the forces fighting against true love, she still gets help from her fairy godmother played by Helena Bonham Carter. She initially takes on the guise of an old beggar woman who steadily watches over Cinderella before revealing her true self.

"There's more to the legend than you ever dreamed," the trailer promises.

The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh and follows the screenplay written by Chris Weitz. It is produced by David Barron, Simon Kinberg and Allison Shearmur for Walt Disney Pictures. Aside from the cast mention, others include Sophie McShera as Drizella and Holliday Grainger as Anastasia.
