DC Comics recently made exciting changes to its series lineup that will be unveiled in June, including 24 new comic book titles in addition to 25 continuing titles.
According to DC Entertainment co-publisher Dan DiDio, the lineup overhaul is being carried out to increase "diversity and accessibility' as well as to embrace a wide range of stories.
"This heralds in a new era for the DC Universe which will allow us to publish something for everyone, be more expansive and modern in our approach and tell stories that better reflect the society around us," Didio pointed out in his blog post on the official DC Comics site.
Moreover, this latest lineup of titles is developed to appeal to longtime comics readers and newbies alike.
For such upcoming 24 new series, these will begin with issue no. 1 whereas the 25 ongoing titles will carry on with no gap in terms of issue numbering.
Overall, aside from these 49 titles, the publisher will be adding more series before the year ends.
"In this new era of storytelling, story will trump continuity," DiDio said.
One of the underlying reasons for DC's new titles would be fans' interest in both new and classic characters being featured in TV series, movies and video games alike.
"We are looking to extend that experience within publishing to ensure there is a comic book for everyone," DC co-publisher stated. "For example, fans of the "Arrow' television show may want more stories about Black Canary. Now they can find modern, fresh takes on the character in the pages of her standalone series."
Meanwhile, DC's Free Comic Book Day issue titled "DC Comics: Divergence' will be released on May 2.
Fans can get their first look at several new storylines, including those of "Batman' by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, "Justice League' by Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok and "Superman' by John Rommita Jr. and Gene Luen Yang.
Yang is an award-winning writer known for his numerous works including "American Born Chinese' and "Boxers and Saints.'
