Netflix

Richie Rich is set to return and entertain a new generation of fans as Netflix recently announced that the pilot episode featuring the lives of the well-loved trillionaires will air on February 21, 2015, according to USA Today.

In the newly released teaser trailer for the upcoming series, the classic story of a fun and adventurous boy with extremely wealthy parents was given a twist. This version of Richie Rich tells the story of Richie, played by Jake Brennan, who became an immensely rich entrepreneur following his invention of a new green technology. His decision to sell his discovery allowed him and his family to amass such colossal amount of cash.

With his newfound success and fortune, Richie buys a huge mansion. He then takes with him his father, Cliff Rich, portrayed by Kiff VandenHeuvel. His sister, Harper Rich, played by Lauren Taylor, will be with them as well. Apart from his family members, Richie also invites his friends, Murray and Darcy, played by Joshua Carlon and Jenna Ortega, respectively, to live in his home.

Richie will now attempt to live each day in his mansion to the fullest, planning and plotting amazing and fun adventures to embark on with his friends and family. In addition to the mansion he owns, another staple possession in the series will be his custom made mini Lamborghini, which the intensely rich kid will be using to travel from one to another inside the house.

Notably, VandenHeuvel's character as Cliff is one of only two adults who are part of the series. In an interview with Michigan Live, he shared how he used his experience at Camp Roger in Rockford to handle his relationship with the younger actors in the show.

"Most of my cast members are 12 or 13 years old," disclosed the former camp counselor. "My job was to connect and listen, treat them as peers. When at Camp Roger I used the SIBKIS method - See It Big, Keep It Simple. The idea is that you can motivate a group of young people if you pitch a simple idea with great enthusiasm."

"The greatest gift I got was at the end of the shoot when Jenna Ortega (who plays Darcy on the show) gave me a card that read 'Thank you for treating me like an equal.' That meant a lot to me. I adore each of these kids. They are all very special to me and incredibly talented and extremely funny," VandenHeuvel said.

The executive producers of Richie Rich include the writers of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and The Suite Life on Deck, Tim Pollock and Jeff Hodsden. The co-founder and CEO of Awesomeness TV, Brian Robbins, will serve as an executive producer as well.

The first ten episodes of Richie Rich will already be available on Netflix on Saturday. The series has a total of 21 episodes slated to run this year.
