‘Hunger Games’ Franchise Might Get Own Video Game [Rumors]

The "Hunger Games" film franchise, which is based on a series of novels of the same name, might get a video game adaptation, according to Game Spot.

Rumors of a "Hunger Games" video game emerged after Lionsgate, the distributor of the films, made a huge investment in the development studio Telltale Games. This company is known as the creator of the episodic adventure games based on the "Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones" television series.

Although Lionsgate did not directly mention that a "Hunger Games" video game will be developed in the future, the collaboration between the two firms will give Telltale access to the projects and properties of the film distributor. These include all "Hunger Games" films.

"[The deal will] continue the extension of Lionsgate's film and television brands into the game space and will bring Lionsgate's expertise in creating and marketing premium content to Telltale's unique narrative-driven, storytelling approach to gaming," the two companies mentioned in a statement.

As part of the collaboration, John Feltheimer, the chief executive of Lionsgate, will become a member of the game studio's board of directors.

In addition, the partnership also means the two firms can work together in developing each others' media properties to create new television programs and video games.

"This partnership will accelerate Telltale's ability to create not only original games, but episodic television series based on our game properties," Kevin Bruner, the chief executive of Telltale said in a statement.

As to what a "Hunger Games" video games might possibly look like, Cinema Blend pointed out said it could focus on a different set of characters since Telltale usually deviates from its source material.

For instance, in the studio's version of the "Walking Dead" game, a different group of people was featured instead of the usual characters from the television series.

For the "Hunger Games," Telltale could create a story about the previous games or events.
