It seems like Pixar's Finding Dory is taking forever to reach the big screen. The Finding Nemo sequel took 12 years to materialize, but the world's most beloved and forgetful fish still has not lost her appeal to viewers, and fans eagerly await her return.
So what do we know about the upcoming Finding Dory film? Cinema Blend has rounded up certain facts about the film, the first of which is the voice behind the lead character, which is definitely still Ellen DeGeneres. She signed a contract with Pixar way back in August 2012, and might have even added an idea or two into the film.
Aside from Ellen, a lot of familiar names will be included in the Finding Dory film. Of course, Dory's good friend Marlin, voiced by Albert Brooks, will be back again for the whole duration of the new film in order to accompany Dory on her new adventure.
It will be directed once again by Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton, while co-director will be Angus MacLane.
While a lot of old names are back, there will be new voices too. Several big names are expected to join the sequel, but so far only Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy have been confirmed. They will be playing Jenny and Charlie respectively, and fans believe they will most likely be voicing Dory's parents.
Modern Family's Ty Burrell will be another new character named Bailey. Other actors who have confirmed to lend their voices include Idris Elba, Willem Dafoe, Dominic West, and Vicki Lewis. No additional information has been provided about their characters.
As for the story, Finding Dory will not be set on the ocean as expected but rather at the Marine Biology Institute of California, which is a rehabilitation complex for marine life. This is where fans will be introduced to Dory's parents, and this is also where Dory was probably born and raised.
It will be set years after the first movie concluded. Nemo will be going on a class trip to watch manta rays migrate home, leading Dory to think about her own home and past.
Years have really changed the plot of Finding Dory. Originally, Pixar wanted the conclusion of Finding Dory to be at Sea World, or some similar facility. But after the controversial documentary Blackfish, Pixar changed its mind and rewrote the ending.
Finding Dory will finally hit theatres on June 17, 2016.
