With only one day to go before the release of the highly anticipated Apple Watch at the company's special event, a new website has recently been launched to give watch users more opportunities in customizing their devices.
According to "Mix Your Watch' creator Jony Ive, interested individuals can now express their creativity in coming up with their own designs for their gadgets through a companion application.
With the use of the official Apple Watch photos, the Mix Your Watch website enables users to go through a wide range of possible design combinations by simply swapping cases and watch bands. The Apple Watch case is available in 6 variants that are made of steel, aluminum and gold; it also has 16 different bands made of leather, steel or fluoroelastomer.
Fluoroelastomers is a synthetic rubber which is resistant to damaging elements, such as heat, oil and chemicals.
Customers should take note that Apple is dividing all of the possible combinations into three main categories- the traditional Apple Watch, the entry-level Apple Watch Sport and the premium Apple Watch Edition that is expected by many to cost as much as $20,000.
These tools for customization were rolled out by developer Steven Troughton-Smith and can enable customers to look through four parent menus relating to messaging, contacts, calendar and health and fitness applications.
The third-party website does not currently provide price estimates for designing and customizing the Apple Watch, which may be deemed as an issue especially for those opting for the gold edition.
Apple's first ever smartwatch was recently recognized at the 2015 iF Design Awards where it bagged the gold award in industrial design at the International Forum in Munich.
According to the judges, the watch's design "honors the rich tradition of watchmaking"; its digital crown can also be deemed as a highly original and creative means of navigating the device.
"The display features Force Touch, which senses the difference between a tap and a press, and the Taptic Engine enables a new vocabulary of notifications you can both hear and feel.", said the judges as they acknowledged the Apple Watch's display and features.
Aside from its phone and messaging capabilities as well as its compatibility with the Apple Pay, company CEO Tim Cook recently mentioned that the use of such wearable will eliminate one's need for car keys. He also compared the watch with the iPhone, explaining: "This [Apple Watch] will be just like the iPhone: people wanted it and bought for a particular reason, perhaps just browsing, but then found out that they loved it for all sorts of other reasons."
