Liam Neeson is arguably one of the best and most bankable action stars out there, but at 62 years old, the aging actor does not think he has it in him to continue taking on physically strenuous roles.
In an interview with The Guardian, Neeson said that he probably has a couple of more years of doing action films before he throws in the towel.
"Maybe two more years. If God spares me and I'm healthy," he said. "But after that, I'll stop the action I think."
"If I feel audiences saying, 'Come on, he's 62, enough is enough,' I'm very sensitive to that and if I pick up that vibe it will all stop. And I'll start playing dads or grandfathers. But I keep myself pretty fit and my knees are still great. And it's fun," he added.
The actor gained the most recognition for his role in the 2009 film Taken, where he played the former government operative Bryan Mills who has a "particular set of skills" that he utilized when his daughter Kim was kidnapped and sold as a slave worker. The overprotective father travelled to Europe to find his daughter and showed no mercy to the people who stood in his way.
Since then, Neeson starred in two more Taken films and also appeared in The A-Team, Unknown, The Grey, Non-Stop, and A Walk Among Tombstones. His current movie release is entitled Run All Time. This time, Neeson would be playing a former mobster who was forced to kill his boss' son in order to save his own. The mobster head vowed to have him and his family destroyed so Neeson's character has to do whatever it takes to keep his family alive.
"I'm in a very, career-wise, great place," Neeson said of the movies. "The success of certainly the Taken films, Hollywood seems to see me in a different light. I get sent quite a few action-oriented scripts, which is great. I'm not knocking it. It's very flattering. But there is a limit, of course."
After Run All Night though, Neeson does not have any action films lined up. His next project will be Ted 2, a comedy that will unite him with Million Ways to Die in the West director Seth MacFarlane. Some of his other projects include A Monster Calls, which is a drama by director J.A. Bayona about a boy who is trying to deal with his mother's terminal illness.
Neeson will also be playing a Jesuit priest in Martin Scorsese's new historical drama called silence. This will be the second time the actor and director will work together, since they earlier teamed up in 2002 for the movie Gangs of New York.
