Reports say that more than 60 women and girls have fled from their captivity from Boko Haram, a Nigerian Islamic extremist group.
According to National Public Radio, ""¦ the girls and women managed to get away when their militant abductors took off to attack a military base near Damboa, in Nigeria's troubled northeastern Borno state." This attack happened last Friday.
The report further said that "relatives have confirmed that they are indeed safe. Insecurity is rife in this restive part of Nigeria, making it difficult to confirm such reports."
68 women, including those that had escaped, were kidnapped earlier last month in Kummabza. Boko Haram militants laid a four-day siege in the village, burning the village down and taking the lives of 30 men.
There are reports that the militant group is also holding 200 or more school girls hostage, whom they kidnapped from a school in a town called Chibok.
Information will be updated as reports are confirmed.
