Tim Burton has now started shooting the movie Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, which has been scheduled to hit theatres March 4, 2016.
The movie is based on Ransom Riggs' same-titled book about a 16-year-old boy named Jacob who is incredibly fascinated by his grandfather's collection of odd pictures featuring children who can levitate, carry heavy objects, and have a beehive for a stomach.
When an unknown creature attacks his grandfather, Jacob is thrust into a whole different world where the kids he saw merely from pictures are actually real. His journey leads him to an abandoned Welsh island where all peculiar children live in a protective, continuous loop where they never age a single day.
What's more, Jacob soon discovers that he is a peculiar himself and falls in love with one of the peculiar children. To complicate things further, Jacob's love interest actually had a relationship with his grandfather before.
Other stars of the movie include Terence Stamp, Chris O'Dowd, Rupert Everett, Kim Dickens and Judi Dench.
Asa Butterfield from Ender's Game will be playing Jacob Portman, Eva Green from Dark Shadows will be headmistress Miss Peregrine, Ella Purnell from Maleficent will be playing Jacob's love interest Emma Bloom, Samuel L. Jackson from The Avengers will be school bus driver Mr. Barron, Allison Janney from Get On Up will be Dr. Golan, Jacob's psychiatrist.
The official synopsis of the film reads: "The unforgettable, thrilling and haunting tale centers on 16-year-old Jacob, who follows clues that take him to a mysterious island, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores the abandoned bedrooms and hallways, he discovers that its former occupants were far more than peculiar; they possessed incredible powers. And they may still be alive."
Burton's production will be going from Florida to the United Kingdom and Belgium in order to tell the riveting tale of Jacob and the rest of the peculiars.
Screen Rant said that the concept for Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children actually seems very similar to X-Men, where Professor Xavier sets up the School for Gifted Youngsters where mutants can learn to harness their abilities and seek comfort from a judgmental society.
Riggs actually planned on just making a picture book but upon the advice of his editor, decided to write a compelling story that will complement the pictures. The result of his creativity landed him in the New York Times bestseller list and now his book will be turned into a movie.
