It's pretty exciting that there will be a biopic based on the life and career of controversial boxer Mike Tyson, especially with Oscar winner Jamie Foxx set to portray him in the film.
But now, things got even more exciting for the Mike Tyson biopic since Foxx revealed that legendary filmmaker and Oscar-winning Martin Scorsese has signed on to direct it.
He spoke in an interview with New York's Power 101.5 station during their Breakfast Club morning show that exciting things are in store for the Mike Tyson biopic.
"I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson. So I'm going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I'm on the other side and doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull," he shared his experience.
This will not be the first time Foxx will star in a true-to-life film, since he already starred in Ray. The actor has also appeared in several successful films such as The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Django Unchained, Annie, White House Down, and Dream Girls.
Meanwhile, Scorsese's work has gained recognition over the years, with movies such as Hugo and The Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The director seems to enjoy working with DiCaprio since they both have worked together in a lot of films including Shutter Island and The Aviator.
The American boxer Mike Tyson is now retired, and he has seen both success and losses throughout his entire boxing career. He was formerly the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
Despite his successful career, Tyson 's life was marred with controversies, most prominent of which was his arrest for the rape of 18-year-old Desiree Washington, who won Miss Black Rhode Island. According to her, Tyson invited her to his hotel room in Indianapolis for a party on July 19, 1991, but when she got to his room, he made sexual advances to her and raped her despite her pleas to stop.
He lost the case and was deemed guilty on March 26, 1992. He was sentenced to six years in prison, with four years on probation. During his incarceration, the boxer converted to Islam.
Tyson also gained flak for biting the ears off his opponent Evander Holyfield during a match.
