Following Roberto Orci's exit from the "Star Trek' movie franchise, there have been speculations that the upcoming "Star Trek 3' movie may change its plot in accordance to the director's departure.
However, "Fast and Furious' director Justin Lin signed on to the franchise to take on the director's chair for the third film. As such, the script was reportedly changed to something entirely new, as penned by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung.
According to The Guardian, Pegg should be recognized as a "miracle-working" scriptwriter and his contribution to "Star Trek 3' will not go unnoticed. His experiences include working on "Run, Fatboy, Run' as well as the "Cornetto' trilogy that included "Shaun of the Dead', "Hot Fuzz,' and "The World's End', alongside Edgar Wright.
Orci's script was reportedly one of the main reasons that caused the director to exit the franchise, particularly with the studio's concerns regarding the screenplay.
As such, Pegg recently announced that he already wrote a "completely" new one. The screenwriter also shared that collaborating with co-writer Jung and director Lin also became an "interesting process."
"We had creative meetings with Justin and there were things he wanted in there. I haven't written like this before," Pegg said.
He also described the "Fast and Furious' director as someone with an impressive visual mind and great capabilities in terms of choreography.
When asked about what kind of treatment Pegg and his team gave the script, he went into several concepts around which the "Star Trek' movies typically revolve such as adventure and optimism. More importantly, he spoke about improvising the script to appeal to a "slighter more enlightened generation."
In addition, Pegg opened up about the challenges he went through in writing for the "Star Trek 3' characters. He cited the need to follow the rules and treat such realm with respect, especially with the fact that he is new to the "Star Trek' universe and cannot "take ownership of it."
Fans of the franchise can look forward to "Star Trek 3' on July 8, 2016. Key roles will be played by Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin. The upcoming film will mark the 50th anniversary of the "Star Trek' franchise.
