Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, more popularly known as Selena among her fans, will be returning onstage soon as her family recently announced their agreement with Acrovirt to create a hologram version of the Queen of Tejano music, according to Rolling Stone.
The hologram, which is named as Selena The One, will be the "digital embodiment of iconic singer." Based on the Facebook post in the official page of the Mexican artist, the hologram will be capable of "walking, talking, singing, and dancing" in a similar manner with Selena herself. The same post also confirmed that Acrovirt is working closely with the immediate family members of the late singer as well as under the guidance of "cutting-edge scientist" in an effort to bring to life once again the talent and charisma of Selena.
Moreover, Selena The One is announced to be capable of releasing new hit singles and music videos. The hologram will be able to team up with the artists of this generation and even aims to hold concerts or go on tour in 2018.
"This technology is an advanced technology that does not have the limitations of past technologies such as holograms or holographs but is revolutionary," shared Acrovirt in the official fan page for Selena. "Acrovirt has a master research and development agreement with the University of California, San Diego to develop virtualization and interactive technologies for educational, therapeutic and entertainment purposes," the page further stressed, highlighting the capacity of the independent tech firm to carry out the project.
Meanwhile, the board for the San Diego Latino Film Festival also expressed their support in the exciting project.
"We are ecstatic to be a partner with Acrovirt on this groundbreaking project that represents the convergence of music, legacy, and the latest technology," said Director Phil Lorenzo.
Lorenzo additionally stated that such undertaking is an "extraordinary effort" to revive the legacy of one of the most iconic and widely loved musician in the Latino music industry. The director went on to describe Selena as one of the artists with "the greatest voices" and praised the initiative of the tech firm.
"The Festival has worked with Acrovirt and will continue to work with Acrovirt as the project and the documentary continue to evolve," Lorenzo added.
