After his performance at a concert in Portland, the rapper Drake quietly donated a large sum of money to the faith-based organization, Union Gospel Mission which provides food and shelter to the homeless in Portland during the winter season.

This is not the first time the rap star has donated to the needy while trying to avoid public eyes. He and another rap artist, the Game together donated around 22,000 dollars to a family in Ohio who lost their home in a tragic fire. New York Daily News reported that the homeowner was working while her mobile home caught fire, leading to the deaths of her children and boyfriend.

Organization insiders explained that over 3,000 homeless people could be seen on the streets of Portland on any given night. Union Gospel Mission and other similar groups require large sums of money to provide food and shelter for all of them. Members of the organization posted on their website to urge visitors to donate money for the needy, but then they were surprised by the unexpected visit from the rap star.

KOIN News, Portland's CBS affiliate reported on Drake's conversation with the organization supervisor, David Willis. They reported that after Drake asked David what all the homeless people were doing in the shelter, he made the donation on the spot. Union Gospel Mission members said they plan to use Drake's donation to purchase more necessities for their visitors including blankets.
