When people talk of angels, thoughts of pure and kind heavenly creatures immediately come to mind. But the one who will appear in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Apocalypse will be the complete opposite.

Speculations about Angel's appearance in the film have been heavy for the longest time, but it is only now that it has been confirmed by the director in an interview with Empire Online.

The character will be played by Ben Hardy, according to Singer. "Ben Hardy is Angel - I shall confirm it for you!" he said. "But he's not a very nice Angel! And that's all I'll say..."

Singer even shared some concept art for the newest version of Angel, and the character does look more dark and sinister than what is expected.

X-Men: Apocalypse will star Professor Charles Xavier played by James McAvoy, his childhood friend Magneto played by Michael Fassbender, Beast played by Nicolas Hoult, and Mystique played by Jennifer Lawrence, who were all last seen in the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past.

In the last movie, some of the mutants had to travel back to the past and seek help after a group of robots called the Sentinels have been steadily destroying each and every last mutants and their human allies.

Mystique actually had a lot to do in the creation of the Sentinels, albeit unwillingly, since it was her DNA that was used by Dr. Bolivar Trask (played by Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage) in their creation, so future mutants had to undo her error and do whatever it takes to preserve mutants.

The movie was widely acclaimed by fans and critics alike, so X-Men: Apocalypse sure has a lot on its plate. The villain will probably play a key role in the next movie's success, so Oscar Isaac, who plays the seemingly undefeatable Apocalypse certainly has a lot to live up to.

Hugh Jackman's Wolverine has not been guaranteed to appear in the film though, as well as Channing Tatum's Gambit, also known as Remy LeBeau.

However, American Horror Story actor Evan Peters will be reprising his role as Quicksilver, who was a huge hit in the previous film after he single-handedly helped Professor Xavier and the others get Magneto out of prison.

Moreover, there will be a lot of younger versions of well-known mutants in the next film, such as Cyclops (played by Tye Sheridan), Storm (played by Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (played by Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Jubilee (played by Lana Condor).

X-Men: Apocalypse has been slated for release on May 27, 2016.
