The latest trailer for the upcoming installment "Terminator: Genisys' has immediately made the headlines for unveiling what numerous fans would consider to be a major movie spoiler.
Being the fifth film in the series, the new reboot stars "Game of Thrones' actress Emilia Clarke who plays the role of Sarah Connor. She is joined by Jai Courtney who plays Kyle Reese and Jason Clarke who portrays John Connor.
Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role as the original T-800 Terminator.
After making a debut in 1984, the series now revolves around the present times, years before a dystopian future arrives in which artificial intelligence, Skynet, rules over the world.
In the first film helmed by James Cameron, Schwarzenegger portrayed a cyborg that was sent back from 2029 to 1984 to get rid of Sarah Connor, who was then played by Linda Hamilton. Her son, John, had been meant to become a leader of the resistance. Kyle Reese, who was originally portrayed by Michael Biehn, was a soldier from the future who was also sent back in time to protect Connor.
Now, the latest "Terminator' reboot is expected to follow the storyline; however, several major changes have been made. After Paramount Pictures released the newest trailer for "Terminator: Genisys', fans were surprised by a huge plot twist- that John Connor has now been turned into a cyborg.
For this reboot, John still sends Kyle back in time to protect his mother, and Kyle comes across a seemingly altered past.
Sarah's parents have also been murdered by a T-800 Terminator; in time, she grew up with another T-800, as portrayed by Schwarzenegger, who seeks to offer her protection and the necessary preparations.
Reese, Sarah and the T-800 then find themselves battling John, who was recently revealed to have become a human-cyborg hybrid.
The newest trailer shows two scenes in which John is injured but makes his recovery; however, it seems that the same "mimetic poly-alloy" incorporated into newer T-1000 Terminator models is present as he recuperated.
Another plot twist may also involve Schwarzenegger's older Terminator battling it out with the original cyborg that the actor portrayed in 1984.
"Terminator: Genisys' has officially been set to hit theaters on July 1, 2015.
It was previously reported that two more sequels will be released from the "Terminator' franchise; release dates include May 19, 2017 and June 29, 2018, one of which is rumored to carry the title "Terminator 6.'
