Singer Avril Lavigne uploaded a new Youtube music video for her latest single, "Fly" on Thursday, April 16. She is a top-selling artist in the United States with over 50 million singles sold. The 30-year-old singer is donating the proceeds from the song to the Special Olympics, a nonprofit organization.
Lavigne tweeted the news through her Twitter account on Wednesday, April 15. The donations are made through The Avril Foundation, a nonprofit organization. The music video has 186,134 views and was liked 25K times. 1,771 viewers left comments on the video.
"There's a light inside all of us. It's never hid and you just have to light it. It's the one thing that you got to trust. It's like a diamond, you just have to find it. So if you ever feel like giving up, yeah, let's remember that.. we were all meant to fly. Spread your wings, across the universe. It's your time to, it's your time to shine," sings Lavigne in "Fly."
Special Olympics is the largest organization for people with disabilities. The nonprofit organization provides training for the Special Olympics World Games that occur bi-yearly in Summer and Winter. Different sports for the competitions are alpine skiing, aquatics, track and field, badminton, basketball, bocce, bowling, cross-country skiing, cycling, equestrian sports, figure skating, floor hockey, football (soccer), golf, gymnastics, handball, judo, power lifting, sailing, short-track speed skating, snowboarding, snowshoeing, softball, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball.
The Avril Lavigne Foundation was created in 2010 with five goals in mind: R.O.C.K.S. It is an acronym for Respect, Opportunity, Choices, Knowledge, and Strength. The Foundation aims at respecting the needs of youth, creating opportunities for youth with disabilities to follow dreams, to bring awareness to youth about life choices, to give knowledge though programs, and to give strength to families in facing daily challenges.
