With several feature films currently being developed at the studio, Warner Bros. Pictures has already shifted a couple of release dates for its "LEGO Movie' franchise. Based on the popular toy line, LEGO's "Ninjago' will be delayed for a full year whereas the "LEGO Batman Movie' has been moved to an earlier release date. The "LEGO Movie Sequel' has been shifted to hit theaters a week earlier than its original release date.
"We are very excited about dating our upcoming LEGO animated features, which already have a worldwide fan following, built on the foundation of the first film," Warner Bros. domestic distribution president Dan Fellman said.
"Ninjago' was formerly scheduled to open on September 23, 2016; however, it will now be released on September 22, 2017. Therefore, the next LEGO feature film that fans can look forward to is the "LEGO Batman Movie'. Previously scheduled on May 26, 2017, the "Batman' mini-figures will go onscreen beginning February 10, 2017.
"The LEGO Movie Sequel', which was formerly set for a release on May 25, 2018, will open in cinemas on May 18, 2018.
"These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come," Fellman added.
With these new dates, "The LEGO Batman Movie' will be released opposite "The Mountain Between Us' from 20th Century Fox, a romantic drama film starring Charlie Hunnam and Rosamund Pike which is based on Charles Martin's novel that follows two strangers and their story of love and survival.
"The LEGO Batman Movie' will put forward a rather comedic look at Batman, who was voiced by Will Arnett in the first "LEGO Movie.' While Arnett is expected to reprise his role in the spinoff, no official announcements on cast members have been made.
Meanwhile, "Ninjago' and the "LEGO Movie Sequel' have been the first films who have been placed on their respective schedules. Taking the previous date of "Ninjago' is an animated film from Warner Bros. titled "Storks', starring Andy Samberg and Kelsey Grammer, which will rival a still-unannounced release from Sony Pictures Animation.
The LEGO Movie, which was released last year, was directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller alongside Chris McKay; it pulled in a total gross of $468 million at the international box office.
Another movie from the LEGO film franchise, "The Billion Brick Race', is still scheduled to open in cinemas on May 24, 2019.
