Owners of Asus's first generation of ZenFone smartphones can expect to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update sometime this month.

According to the company, the update for the ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5, ZenFone 6, ZenFone 5 LTE and PadFone S is currently in its final verification process. Asus noted that the upgrade is scheduled to be rolled out in different weeks of May.

Originally, the OS upgrade for the ZenFone devices was supposed to arrive in April. However, due to various technical problems, the company delayed its release, International Business Times reported.

"We've sent the new version for the final verification and we expect to release the upgrade soon," Asus stated in its consumer online forum.

"We would request the kind consideration and understanding of our customers with regards to any inconvenience caused by this schedule changing," the company continued.

In the schedule provided by GSM Arena, the update will arrive for the ZenFone 5 LTE during the first week of May. The ZenFone 4, ZenFone 5 and ZenFone 6, on the other hand, will receive the update in mid-May.

As for users of the the PadFone S, the update will arrive for their devices in June.

The entire update has a size of 819.44MB. But before installing the update, Asus noted that users should first upgrade the software of their handsets to versions V11.4.6.94.

Through the latest update, the ZenFone devices will have a smoother user interface, better animation quality and a cleaner overall design. The update will also allow users to view and respond to their notifications even if the device's screen is locked.

In addition, new additions will be added to the device such as the quick settings menu and controls for the flashlight and hotspot. Other features include improved memory consumption, more efficient battery life, updated graphic driver and better Browser WebView compatibility.
