"Orange Is The New Black' actress Elizabeth Rodriguez has been set to join the cast of the upcoming "Walking Dead' spinoff series titled "Fear The Walking Dead.'
Rodriguez, who takes on the role of Aleida Diaz in Netflix's hit prison drama, will star in the series and will portray a "mysterious role that sources are keeping quiet about", as Entertainment Weekly reports.
Cable network AMC has ordered two seasons of "Fear the Walking Dead', with its first season comprised of six episodes and set to premiere on the network towards the end of summer.
Details of its second season are yet to be revealed, although it is expected to hit TV screens in 2016. A teaser for the "Walking Dead' spinoff series was already released in March.
In the 15-second clip, a radio report states that the people of Los Angeles has caught a strange flu virus and, therefore, should stay indoors.
According to show director Greg Nicotero, the post apocalyptic series also follows a situation similar to the Ebola issue.
"Even in the US, there was a nurse who was working in Africa and who came back to the United States and refused to go to the quarantine for Ebola," the 52-year-old director shared. "So I think about stories like that and I go: Woe may be that could have been the beginning or may be this could have been the beginning."
Set in the middle of the same exact zombie apocalypse that had broken out in the story of "The Walking Dead', the upcoming series takes place in Los Angeles, California.
Robert Kirkman, who came up with the graphic novel from which "The Walking Dead' was based, is also a co-creator of "Fear the Walking Dead.'
Aside from Rodriguez, British actor Frank Dillane, who portrayed young Tom Riddle in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince', as well as former TV drama "Treme' actress Kim Dickens have already joined the cast.
"The Walking Dead' has already become a widely acclaimed hit series for AMC since it made its debut in 2010. Premiering its fifth season last October, the show has attracted the highest number of audience viewers in the history of U.S. cable TV.
While fans have to wait for summer to see whether "Fear the Walking Dead' can live up to the standards that its predecessor has already created, a first glimpse of the spinoff series is available below.
