ABC Family has recently added two more members to the cast of "Shadowhunters.' "Blue Bloods' actor Alberto Rosende and "Voltea Pa' Que Te Enamores' star Emeraude Toubia are already in talks to portray Simon and Isabelle Lightwood, respectively.
Drawn out from the young adult fantasy book series "The Mortal Instruments', the story of "Shadowhunters' revolves around Clary Fray, who discovers on her 18th birthday that she comes from a family of Shadowhunters. Such creatures can be recognized as human beings who have been infused with angel blood and whose mission includes hunting down demons.
When Clary's mother is captured, she becomes more drawn to demon hunting alongside Shadowhunter Jace and her best pal Simon, who will be played by Rosende.
Living amongst vampires, werewolves and other supernatural creatures, Clary now follows a journey that will lead her to finding out more about who she was in the past and who she will be in the future.
As an accounting student during the day, Rosende's character Simon is recognized as the first person to take things lightly and "find humor in any situation." As he joins Clary in her fight against evil, his loyalty and his feelings for his best friend are tested.
In the film adaptation of "Mortal Instruments: City of Bones', Simon was played by Robert Sheehan.
Isabelle, played by Toubia, is known to be a stunning and highly capable Shadowhunter. She was portrayed by Jemima West in the 2013 movie version.
Meanwhile, British actor and former "Vampire Academy' star Dominic Sherwood was first to be announced as cast member in the spinoff TV series and will play the part of Jace Wayland.
For "Mortal Instruments' fans, they have come to know Jace as an expert Shadowhunter who has had considerable experience in warding off demons. In the "City of Bones' movie, 26-year-old Jamie Campbell Bower took on the role of Jace.
"'Shadowhunters' is a big epic saga that will resonate with viewers who come to ABC Family for the "Harry Potter,' "Hunger Games,' and "Twilight' franchises," ABC Family President Tom Ascheim shared.
With Constantin Film set to produce, Ed Decter already signed on to the team as showrunner and executive producer. "Shadowhunters' will reportedly be comprised of 13 episodes and its production will begin this month in Toronto. No premiere date has been set.
