Lenovo LaVie Z, Z 360 Price & Specs: Lenovo Latest Laptops are Lighter than Apple's MacBook

Lenovo has released its newest ultra light laptop models, the LaVie Z and LaVie Z 360.

The former, which is the standard model, can be purchased for $1,500 while the LaVie Z 360 costs $1,700, PC World reported.

The LaVie Z and LaVie Z 360 were first unveiled by Lenovo in January of this year during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held in Las Vegas.

According to Lenovo, the LaVie Z only weighs around 1.87 pounds. Although it's heavier than what was promised by the company when it unveiled the device in CES, Lenovo's latest product is still lighter than Apple's lightweight 12-inch MacBook, which weighs 2.03 pounds.

Lenovo was able to make the LaVie Z lighter than other laptops currently available in the market by utilizing magnesium-lithium alloy for the device's body. This material offers the same strength as magnesium alloy but weighs significantly less than the standard aluminum.

Although the LaVie Z model opens up like a traditional laptop, the LaVie Z 360 has special hinges on its body which allows the display panel to rotate a full 360 degrees. The screen of the 360 version also has touch-screen features.

Aside from the weight and rotating feature, the LaVie Z line of laptops offers a larger screen display than Apple's MacBook. Both of Lenovo's laptops are equipped with a 13.3-inch WQHD screen with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels.

The two models are powered by the 2.4GHz Intel Core i7-5500U dual-core processor and come with the Intel HD Graphic 5500 graphics card.

The LaVie Z and LaVie Z 360 have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage. Both models have two USB 3.0 ports, SD card slotS, HDMI support and headphone jacks. Their connectivity options are supported by Bluetooth version 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.

As for the devices' battery life, the standard model can last up to 5.9 hours on a full charge while the rotating model can be used for 9 hours, The Verge reported.
