Motorola has decided to skip Android 5.0 Lollipop and went straight for the 5.1 update for its devices from the Moto X series.

Based on a recent post on the company's website, users of the second generation T-Mobile Moto X, second generation AT&T Moto X and the U.S. version of the first generation Moto X can expect to receive the OS upgrade soon, according to 9to5Google.

Motorola did not mention when exactly the Android 5.1 Lollipop update will arrive. But given the company's detailed announcement, the update might arrive within the next coming days.

The update for the AT&T Moto X is the software version 23.11.21 while for the T-Mobile variant, it will be version 23.11.14.

The upcoming update for the Moto X comes with various improvements for the devices' settings, Droid-life reported. These include added settings for the notifications' alarms, more Hotspot options and reduced noise levels in low-light shots taken with the smartphones' camera.

Also, with the update, a lost or stolen device will remain locked even if its factory settings have been reset. The device can only be used once the owner signs in using his or her official Google credentials.

In addition to the improvements, the update will also fix certain issues experienced by users such as the constant crashing of Chrome when launched and the inability to reconnect the device to the user's home Wi-Fi. The issue of the clock not updating will also be fixed once the update arrives.

Aside from the Moto X line of devices, Motorola also posted the release notes of Android 5.1 Lollipop for the second generation Moto E. The update, which will upgrade the device's software to version 23.11.15, also comes with various fixes and improvements.

But before installing, Motorola advised users to make sure that the battery life of their devices is at least at 50 percent and that they are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network.
