Actor Martin Freeman crosses over to the superhero universe as Marvel recently announced that the actor will be joining the cast of "Captain America: Civil War.'
After coming across dwarves in "The Hobbit' and being involved in detective stories in "Sherlock', Freeman will now take on a role that is not yet specified by Marvel.
"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in The Office, Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige stated. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Freeman joins a cast that is already filled up with heroes and antagonists from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Aside from Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr. who will be reprising their roles as incompatible Avengers, other stars to appear in "Captain America: Civil War' include Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Daniel Bruhl, Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen.
Even Chadwick Boseman will make his first onscreen appearance as Black Panther.
Freeman is the next "Sherlock' actor to venture out into the Marvel film universe after co-star Benedict Cumberbatch was confirmed to portray fictional superhero Doctor Strange.
Thanks to his small screen role in the British version of "The Office', Freeman rose to fame and more recently gained Emmy nominations for his insurance salesman character in the hit miniseries "Fargo' from FX.
"Captain America: Civil War' continues on with the story from the end of "Avengers: Age of Ultron', whose heroes will be forced to take the side of either Iron Man or Captain America as the two opposing Avengers wage out a battle between each other.
In addition, the upcoming film is also expected to show the all-new, rebooted Spider-Man for his first ever appearance.
"Captain America: Civil War' is set to hit cinemas on May 6, 2016.
Meanwhile, "Avengers: Age of Ultron' already pulled in a whopping $84.5 million last Friday, which is reportedly the biggest opening day recorded for a superhero film. It is also recognized as the second biggest opening day in history, next to"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2', which raked in a total gross of $91.7 million on opening day.
Marvel Studios is also expected to smash records by having the top three opening weekends in domestic box office history with "Avengers', "Avengers: Age of Ultron' and "Iron Man 3.'
