Actress Charlize Theron recently shared her sentiments on the concept of feminism and how equal pay in Hollywood can make a huge difference.

In her interview with Elle UK, the "Mad Max: Fury Road' star revealed that she was able to negotiate an equal pay for "The Huntsman' following the leaked Sony emails which highlighted the considerable disparity between the salaries of male and female actors on the set of "American Hustle.'

Theron was able to negotiate a $10 million increase to make her pay equal to that of co-star Chris Hemsworth for the "Snow White' prequel.

"I have to give them credit, because once I asked, they said yes," she shared. "They did not fight it. And maybe that's the message: that we just need to put our foot down."

Sean Penn's partner, who bagged an Oscar award for her performance in "Monster', based her negotiations on the "American Hustle' emails in order to increase her pay. Such messages revealed that Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence were both paid with a smaller percentage of profits compared to their male co-stars.

"When I thought about the temperature out there - with finding out what Jennifer and Amy were being paid on a set with guy actors who are their counterparts"¦," the actress shared. "They're just as good as any of the guys on there. Yeah, that pissed me off!"

The 39-year-old star also spoke of the significance of feminism, referring to the concept as a good thing and that it is critical to fight for equal rights. She believes that being a feminist does not mean having to hate men but to have women be treated and compensated for their work in the same way.

Theron also opened up about the challenges she experienced while working with Penn on the romantic drama "The Last Face', in which the couple also stars with Javier Bardem.

Nonetheless, despite experiencing moments when they felt that they were being unfair to each other, the fashion model draws attention to their main priority, which is the relationship itself.

Theron's last onscreen appearance was in Seth MacFarlane's "A Million Ways to Die in the West' in which she and the filmmaker also starred alongside Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried. Theron will appear next in the film adaptation of "Dark Places' based on the mystery novel by Gillian Flynn.
