Verizon has started seeding the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update to the LTE variant of its Galaxy Tab S 8.4 tablets.
According to a listing on Samsung's site, the roll out began on May 26 and the update will upgrade the device to version T707WRU1BOD4.
Given the release date, some users of Verizon's Galaxy Tab S 8.4 may have already received the update. For those who haven't received it yet, they can expect to get a notification regarding its availability within the next few days.
For those who can't wait, they can check manually by going to their tablet's Settings menu and tapping on the About Device option.
The update, once available, can be downloaded over the air. Samsung, however, did not mention the size of the file so users should make sure that their devices have enough space before downloading it.
Also, like in previous updates, users should back up all of their data, make sure they are connected to a secure Wi-Fi or LTE network and check if their devices have enough battery power to avoid any interruptions during the download and installation processes.
Samsung's Galaxy Tab S 8.4 came with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS when it was first released in July of last year. With the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update, users can expect to receive notable changes in their devices' overall performance. Some of these include an improved Material Design and fixes for various bugs and glitches, according to Phone Arena.
In addition, the device will also get a new notification mode through the update.
Although update 5.0.2 can be considered as the next step from the Galaxy Tab S 8.4's original KitKat OS, it would have been better for users if Verizon went straight to the 5.1 version of Lollipop. After all, this version comes with more improvements and features than its predecessor.
But since Verizon is a bit slow when it comes to software update roll outs, as pointed out by Android Headlines, the telecom company might be prioritizing earlier models of Lollipop first before unveiling its latest versions.
