Xperia Updates & Features: Sony Releases Water-Resistant Xperia M4 Aqua and Selfie Pro Xperia C4

Sony has begun releasing the newest members of its Xperia line of devices.

Both the waterproof Xperia M4 Aqua and selfi-handset Xperia C4 are now globally available in various retail stores.

The release of the two handsets was confirmed by the Xperia Blog and Sony Mobile. The Xperia M4 Aqua and its dual SIM counterpart debuted in the Middle East, Europe and Asia while the Xperia C4 was released in Asia-Pacific.

The Xperia M4 Aqua sports a 5-inch display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. It is powered by the 1GHz octa-core Snapdragon 610 processor from Qualcomm and is equipped with 2GB of RAM.

It packs a 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter. The handset has 8GB of internal storage and runs on a 2400mAh battery, which Sony claims can last up to two days on a single full charge.

Although the body of the Xperia M4 Aqua is made of plastic, it features rubberized corners that act as shock absorbers if the device is dropped.

In addition, due to its IP65 and IP68 certifications, the device is water and dust resistant. According to Sony, the Xperia M4 Aqua can survive and still function after being under 1.5 meters of water for about 30 minutes, according to The Verge.

For the Xperia C4, on the other hand, Sony equipped it with a 5.5-inch full HD display and powered it using an octa-core processor.

Although the handset's cameras have the same megapixel specs as the Xperia M4 Aqua, the Xperia C4's front snapper has a 28mm wide-angle lens and Sony's R mobile sensor, 9to5Google reported.

In addition, it also has a front LED flash. Sony noted that the combination of these specs makes the Xperia C4 the perfect selfie-centered handset.

"Xperia C4 caters to consumers that want a smartphone that not only takes great photos, but also packs a punch," Tony McNulty, vice president of Sony's Value Category Management said in a press release.

"Benefitting from Sony's camera expertise, the 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens lets you capture perfect selfies, while its quality display and performance features provide an all-round advanced smartphone experience," he continued.

Like the Xperia M4 Aqua, the Xperia C4 also has a dual SIM variant.
