Hollywood megastar Tom Hanks, who has solidified his career for starring in movies such as "Forrest Gump," "You've Got Mail," and "Sleepless in Seattle" is now in talks for the lead role in Clint Eastwood's next film with Warner Bros. called "Sully."
According to Variety, Hanks is already in final talks to play brave pilot Captain "Sully" Sullenberger who safely landed a troubled aircraft full of passengers on the Hudson River back in 2009.
The movie will be based on the book written by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow, and the story will take a closer look at the man who became a national hero after his plane began to malfunction shortly after takeoff.
Sullenberger then had to step out and figure out a way to save the lives of those in his aircraft, and he was even forced to take drastic measures in order to save the distraught passengers.
"Sully" will be produced by Frank Marshall, who has acquired the rights to the book way back in 2010 and had been developing it ever since. He will co-produce with Allyn Stewart.
Eastwood has been eyeing the CBS Film about the Boston Marathon bombing called "Patriot's Day" before he got on board with "Sully," but he seemed gung ho in putting the movie spotlight on another American hero - Sully, right after his highly successful war hero film "American Sniper," which told the life of NAVY SEAL Chris Kyle, who went down in military history as America's most lethal sniper, with over 160 confirmed kills.
It starred Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller. However, before the movie made its premiere, Kyle was shot by a man he was trying to help - Eddie Ray Routh. Kyle was shot dead together with his friend Chad Littlefinger, when they were trying to spend some time with Routh at a shooting range called Chalk Mountain.
Meanwhile, Hanks had been inspired lately to play roles based on real-life individuals, such as "Captain Phillips" and Walt Disney in "Saving Mr. Banks." One of his next film projects is "Bridge of Spies" with Steven Spielberg, where he will play Irish-American lawyer and negotiator James Donovan, who has been tasked to negotiate the release of a captured US pilot.
Hanks is currently filming "Inferno," where he will be reprising his role as Professor Robert Langdon, master symbologist. He has played Langdon in two previous movies "The Da Vinci Code" and "Angels and Demons."
