The news about "Bourne 5" have started trickling in, first about Julia Stiles reprising her role as Nicky Parsons in the franchise, and now there's a possibility that "Lord of the Rings" star Viggo Mortensen might be playing the film's villain.
This piece of news was shared by a reporter from The Wrap, who wrote on his personal Twitter account that Mortensen will play a meaty role in "Bourne 5," according to Cinema Blend. Not a lot has been said about his character though, and it is not yet a done deal. What's certain for now is that Mortensen has been "offered" the part of the franchise's latest antagonist, but it is not yet sure if Mortensen will be up for it.
The last people saw of Matt Damon's Jason Bourne was during "The Bourne Ultimatum," where he finally found out his real name - David Webb. He battled it out with Dr. Albert Hirsch and Noah Vosen, the brains behind the notoriously secretive and unethical Operation Blackbriar, and Bourne was also able to expose the misdeeds of Ezra Kramer, who is the Director of the CIA.
Since Bourne successfully eliminated all of them, people are curious: Will Mortensen's character also be a government official or another trained assassin?
Aside from Damon, Stiles, and possibly Mortensen, another star who will grace the film is Alicia Vikander, who earned lots of critical praise for her performance in Alex Garland's "Ex Machina."
Universal Pictures has already set July 29, 2016 as the release date for the next Bourne film. The script will be writtenby Damon and Paul Greengrass, and production should start pretty soon.
Playing a villain will be something new for Mortensen, who has been known to play great leaders in his films, such as King Aragorn in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and "A History of Violence and Eastern Promises."
To recall, it was Aragorn who led the Fellowship of the Ring right after Gandalf lost in the Mines of Moria, and it was he who tracked down the hobbits Meriadoc Brandybuck and Peregrin Took together with the elf Legolas and dwarf Gimli after the said fellowship was broken.
He also defeated Sauron's forces in Gondor and valiantly led an army against the Black Gate of Mordor to distract Sauron's attention from hobbits Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee as they sought to have the One Ring destroyed once and for all.
