Motorola has announced that the Android 5.1 Lollipop for the first generation Moto X handset is now available in selected countries.
The announcement was officially made by Motorola executive David Schuster through his Google+ account, Android Central reported.
"I am pleased to announce that we have started full deployment of the 5.1 Android Lollipop update for Moto X (1st Gen) for U.S. Retail, Brazil Retail and Rogers in Canada," Schuster posted on June 19.
Based on the update's details posted on Motorola's site, the update for the Moto X 2013 comes with the new Material Design as well as other features and improvements.
One of these is an enhanced notifications system. Through the update, notifications will now be displayed on the lockscreen and will be ranked depending on their type and who sent them. Also, users will be able to schedule an early downtime time for their notifications' settings.
In addition, the update comes with a guest mode which allows multiple users to create their own accounts on a single device. The settings of this mode, such as the texting and calling privileges of other users, can be restricted by the primary user or owner of the device.
Another notable aspect of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the Moto X 2013 is its battery saving feature. The update comes with a new mode that reduces background data operations to conserve battery life. Also, through the Battery Settings panel, users will be able to check how long they can use their device before charging it.
The latest OS update for the Moto X 2013 will upgrade the device's firmware version to 222.21.15. Since it is an over-the-air file, the device has to be connected to a secure Wi-Fi network to complete the update's download and installation process.
Users are advised to back up their data before downloading the update and to make sure that their devices have at least 50 percent of battery life.
