Acer has officially released the newest member of its Chrome OS line of devices.
Named as the Chromebase, the device is an all-in-one desktop computer that features an optional touch-responsive display, according to 9to5Google.
Acer's Chromebase is now available in the U.S. and comes in two variants: one without a touch display and one with touch screen capabilities. The former, or the basic model costs $329 while the higher-end version, or the touch display variant, has a retail price of $429.
With the exception of the touch display, both models sport the same specifications. The two variants sport a 21.5-inch HD display with 1080p resolution. Since the Chromebase is an all-in-one device, the display panel comes with an integrated HD webcam.
The two variants also feature built-in 3W audio speakers as well as HDMI, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports.
Both models are powered by the NIVDIA Tegra K1 quad-core processor and are equipped with 16GB of Solid State Drive. Acer claimed that through the powerful processor, both variants can resume their operations after booting up from sleep mode within 10 seconds.
The latest release from Acer also comes with the NVIDIA Kepler graphics processing unit. Users who purchase either the basic model or the touch display variant will also receive free 100GB of Google Drive Storage for two years
For its software, the Acer Chromebase runs on the Chrome OS. It features support for a multi-user mode and also comes with various security features. These include data encryption and verified boot to protect the device from various kinds of malware and other online threats.
"The Acer Chromebase is ideal for customers wanting to leverage the speed and simplicity of the Chrome OS," Simon Chen, the senior business manager of Acer America said in the press release.
"We're confident customers will also appreciate the automatic updates and layers of security that make this platform easy to use and hassle-free and at an affordable price," he added.
