The force remains with Ewan McGregor as the actor revealed during a Q&A session at the Edinburgh Film Festival that he would be "happy" if given the chance to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in future "Star Wars' films.
As Disney continues with its strategy of coming up with standalone films in between installments of a new trilogy, it is likely that McGregor's concept for a movie that follows the story of the Jedi knight's adventures during Episodes III and IV can be developed soon.
"I'd be happy to do the story from episodes three where I finish up and Alec Guinness starts," the Scottish actor said, according to Britain's Daily Record.
McGregor, who portrayed the fan-favorite character in the "Star Wars' prequel movies, has taken great interest in the sci-fi franchise that started out decades ago.
During his childhood, the 44-year-old actor took his inspiration for acting from his own uncle, actor Denis Lawson, who portrayed the X-Wing pilot Wedge in the first three films.
"We can't feel the same way we felt about the [original] films as kids because we're grown up. And we have different attitudes towards them," McGregor explained in an interview, referring to critics that have certain issues about "Star Wars' prequel projects.
McGregor continues to look forward to watching the upcoming "Star Wars: Force Awakens' that will draw attention to recurring actors and newcomers alike.
"It's not a fanatical thing," he said. "I'm really pleased I'm part of the legacy of it and happy to see it and I've seen the trailer and it looks like they've absolutely nailed it."
Meanwhile, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens' is scheduled to hit cinemas on Dec. 18, 2015 and will see the return of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, Kenny Baker as R2-D2 and Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca.
Other cast members that have signed on to the highly anticipated movie include Adam Driver ("Girls'), Oscar Isaac ("A Most Violent Year'), Andy Serkis ("Avengers: Age of Ultron'), Domhnall Gleeson ("Ex Machina'), Lupita Nyong'o ("12 Years a Slave'), John Boyega ("Attack the Block'), Gwendoline Christie ("Game of Thrones'), Miltos Yerolemou ("Game of Thrones'), Max von Sydow ("The Exorcist') and Christina Chong ("24: Live Another Day'). Newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen have joined the cast as well.
For "Star Wars: Rogue One', one of Disney's standalone projects in between episodes, the film is set to hit the big screen on Dec. 16, 2016 while "Star Wars: Episode VIII' has been scheduled for a later date on May 26, 2017.
