For the third time, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto will be busy going to places where no man has gone before as they begin filming for "Star Trek 3.'
The co-stars have been posting photos of themselves while on set and it seems that both are all decked out in full costume and dressed in their characters.
In an interview with Variety, Quinto opened up about thinking of how the third installment of the rebooted franchise will follow the story of a five-year mission.
As stated by the original James T. Kirk, which is being played by Chris Pine in the more recent films, the journey is "to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before."
Quinto also believes that the five-year mission will be somehow incorporated in the upcoming film and that there will be a certain evolution among the characters which has already been brewing in the first few movies.
"We're coming up on the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic sci-fi series in entertainment history so it's inherently an ongoing story," the 38-year-old actor further shared.
Writer and actor Simon Pegg has not revealed much detail about the third film, although he hinted that Idris Elba could actually be in the film and might take on a villainous role.
"I heard there's a rumor he's be spoken to about stuff"”so he may be in the film, but he won't be a Klingon," Pegg said, referring to the speculations that Elba would portray the main villain. "Or maybe he will."
Meanwhile, the "Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation' actor previously opened up about penning the "Star Trek 3' script and revealed that he had been asked to come up with content that will make the film "less Star Trek-y" as the studio is aiming for a style that is similar to that of "Avengers.'
The 45-year-old actor also confirmed that he had worked on a fresh new script and that he and co-writer Doug Jung had struggled to complete each and every detail under a tight deadline.
"We started again six months before we were due to start shooting, which is insane," Pegg said in an interview with Radio Times last month. He added: "In fact we start shooting in Vancouver in four weeks - and we're only handing in our first draft today."
Meanwhile, aside from Elba, newcomer Algerian actress Sofia Boutella has signed on to "Star Trek 3' for a mystery role.
Boutella and Elba are on board to join the other cast members who will reprise their roles for the third film; these include Pine, Quinto Saldana, Pegg, Anton Yelchin and Karl Urban as the crew members of the U.S.S. Enterprise.
After directing the last two films, J.J. Abrams will be returning this time to produce. Justin Lin, who previously helmed "The Fast and the Furious' films, has signed on to direct "Star Trek 3.'
Paramount Pictures officially announced that the highly-anticipated sequel will be released on July 8, 2016, two months before the 50th Anniversary of the "Star Trek' TV series.
