Huawei confirmed that it has already begun the beta testing process for the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for its Ascend P7 handset.
Although there are no details yet regarding the update's release, owners of the device can expect to receive it soon, Phone Arena reported.
The arrival of the update for the Ascend P7 was announced by Huawei earlier in April of this year. At that time, the company said it plans to update several of its handset models to the Android Lollipop OS. Aside from the Ascend P7, the handsets in line to get major OS upgrades include the Ascend Mat7, Ascend Mate2 and Ascend G7.
For the Ascend P7, on the other hand, the latest announcement regarding the Android 5.1 Lollipop update was issued for users in Spain and Italy only. It is not yet clear if the update will be rolled out to more regions when it is officially released by the company.
Huawei's Ascend P7 debuted in June of last year with the stock Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS. Since its launch, the device has never received an update. But based on the company's announcement, it seems the handset will skip other updates and head straight for the Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Although Huawei has not yet released the notes of the update for the Ascend P7, it's safe to assume that it will come with relatively the same features seen in other devices. In addition, the handset will also get the new EMUI 3.1 from Huawei on top of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update, according to Ubergizmo.
The device sports a 5-inch IPS LCD display and has a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels. It is powered by the quad-core 1.8GHz Cortex-A9 processor and has 3GB of RAM. The smartphone's 16GB of internal storage can be expanded to 64GB through a microSD card.
For its camera, the handset packs a 13-megapixel rear shooter with autofocus and LED flash and an 8-megapixel secondary snapper.
