OnePlus 2 Updates & Specs: OnePlus Confirms Upcoming Flagship Handset will Sport a Fingerprint Sensor

OnePlus confirmed that the successor of its One smartphone will be equipped with a fingerprint sensor.

The company then boasted that the security feature of the OnePlus 2 will be more efficient than Apple's TouchID, The Next Web reported.

According to OnePlus founder Carl Pei, the addition of the fingerprint sensor in the 2 does not mean that the company is simply following the trend set by other tech giants in their smartphones.

Unlike in other devices, the OnePlus 2's fingerprint scanner will be functional, Pei said. The executive then said that the company has bypassed the process of manually inputting a password, like in the TouchID.

"With the OnePlus 2, the fingerprint sensor is done right," Pei stated in the OnePlus forum page. "It's refined and lightning quick, unlocking your device faster than TouchID."

"The average person checks their phone over 200 times per day," he added. "If you spend just three seconds inputting a PIN number or pattern, that's over an hour of your time gone each week."

Pei explained that the upcoming flagship device's fingerprint scanner will be activated with just a single tap. As an added security feature, users will be allowed to store a maximum of five fingerprint profiles.

The fingerprint sensor is the latest high-end spec revealed by OnePlus regarding its new handset. Previously, the company announced that the OnePlus 2 will have a USB Type-C port and will be powered by an improved version of Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810. The device is rumored to sport either a 5.5 or 5.7-inch display.

Before confirming the fingerprint sensor, though, Pei noted that the OnePlus 2 will have a retail price of more than $322, according to 9to5Google. It is still unclear if the latest announcement will affect the pricing of the upcoming device.

The OnePlus 2 is expected to be officially introduced on July 27 through a special virtual reality presentation.
