Production has officially begun on the all-female Ghostbusters with director Paul Feig teasing a first glimpse at the costumes from the upcoming reboot.
Feig, who previously worked on "Spy' that pulled in $144m at the global box office to date, took to social media and shared the first film costume photo. He posted a picture of the four arranged suits, with the surnames of the actors affixed to them.
For the all-female cast of the upcoming remake, 'Bridesmaids' stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy have been joined by "Saturday Night Live' regulars Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
While no official description for the movie plot has been released, speculations suggest that Wiig and McCarthy will be portraying authors who come up with a book on the paranormal which comes alive to haunt Wiig after she lands an impressive job at Columbia University.
However, when New York gets overrun by ghosts, Wiig's character reunites with McCarthy's, and the two ghost wranglers attempt to save the day.
Feig had previously shared about taking inspiration from his favorite zombie apocalypse TV series, AMC's "The Walking Dead.'
Despite being centered on the paranormal, "Ghostbusters' has been originally recognized as a comedy classic. Therefore, this leaves plenty of space for Feig to slip in scary scenes that can offer a certain level of horror to the upcoming reboot.
The "Freaks and Geeks' director also mentioned his goal of coming up with a blockbuster film that is funny and scary at the same time.
"I will say, I was very inspired by this show," Feig said, referring to "The Walking' Dead' and how it has inspired the upcoming "Ghostbusters' reboot. "What I love is how they play with the danger, they play with the scariness, but also the idea that it's always about gauntlet run."
He emphasized the need to address a range of supernatural factors as well as other components in the film, further drawing attention to how the AMC hit series has been able to demonstrate such capability.
"That's something, an element I want to bring to this Ghostbusters reboot is having to get through these various obstacles that are supernatural and all that. I really feed off of "The Walking Dead'," Feig added.
His previous films, including the R-rated comedies '21 Jump Street', "The Hangover' series and "Bridesmaids,' all had an impressive performance in the global box office.
However, the 52-year-old helmer said that he aims to have a PG-13 rating for the "Ghostbusters' movie to make the most of its audience.
"The Ghostbusters world doesn't need that level of swearing," Feig explained. "We'll have to be PG-13 with this one. I would like to make it R-rated, but I won't. You want the biggest number of people to watch it and not be put off by it."
Ghostbusters has been scheduled for an official release on July 15, 2016.
