There is a risk for actors to appear old and outdated when they take on the same role for several years, but Arnold Schwarzenegger did not seem to mind being the T-800 again for the "Terminator" franchise. In fact, the actor really loves being the T-800 and has nothing but high praises for the world and characters that have been created by visionary James Cameron.
When asked by Screen Rant why he came back to the rebooted movie "Terminator: Genisys," which is now directed by Alan Taylor, Schwarzenegger answered: "Well, I always said that I would do another 'Terminator' if the story is great. I think I really enjoyed this story when I read it. I think the people that were involved made me feel like I think this is going to be a good movie and they're going to go all out with the project."
Schwarzenegger did not feel like they were exploiting the franchise, nor were they living off the great story that has already been established in the past. The brains behind "Terminator: Genisys" really took the story seriously and found a way to continue the story without ignoring the previous ones.
And the actor has no doubt that the people would respond to the movie with the same enthusiasm as before. "It's still, today, one of the top franchises that people are looking forward to seeing," he said. "The key thing is you give the people more than they can even anticipate. So it's giving more than we promised rather than less."
In the past, the T-800 has been seen as the villain Terminator and the father figure Terminator. For "Genisys," Schwarzenegger said that his character has been programmed to protect Sarah Connor, this time played by "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke. He said that the T-800 will destroy anything that's in front of him just to save her.
And it's a role that the actor has no problem taking on. "It's like you've been doing it your whole life, because I'm very passionate about the character," he said. "I think it's a great and interesting character. I think it's a great story. I think the whole concept that Cameron had way back in the early 80s of creating a world where the machines take over and things becoming a reality more and more, which no one could even think of in those days, I think it's really been great because the whole team is really into going all out."
