Bryan Singer's next film "X-Men: Apocalypse" will not be hitting cinemas until next year, but the director is pretty excited for fans to see it since it will take the "X-Men" franchise into new heights.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the director, who has already helmed three other "X-Men" films said: "This is kind of a conclusion of six 'X-Men' films, yet a potential rebirth of younger, newer characters."
The highly anticipated movie will introduce the fan favorite villain Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac, as well as telepath mutant Psylocke, to be played by Olivia Munn. They will also be introducing teenage versions of already well-known mutants such as Storm, to be played by Alexandra Shipp; Cyclops to be portrayed by Tye Sheridan; Jean Grey to be played by Sophie Turner; and Nightcrawler to be played by Kodi Smit-McPhee.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be set in 1983 and the mutants, including Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, and James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier will be choosing sides as the indestructible force Apocalypse threatens the world with destruction.
Other mutants include Lana Condor as Jubilee, Ben Hardy as Angel, Lucas Till as Havok, and Rose Byrne will be reprising her role as Moira McTaggert.
"This is the true birth of the X-Men," the director teased. "This is how it happens."
However, despite this "true birth" of the mutants, things are not looking good for Mystique since "The Hunger Games" star Lawrence earlier revealed that "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be her last movie as the notorious blue shape-shifter.
"It is my last one, actually," the actress said, and she offered no further details about the role and the future of "X-Men" films. So does this mean that Mystique will finally meet her end in "X-Men: Apocalypse," or will she be replaced by a different actress?
Lawrence is not the only one who is bidding her mutant character goodbye though. Even Australian actor Hugh Jackman, who has played Wolverine for the past several years, will be making his exit after the standalone "Wolverine 3" film, which will be released sometime in 2017.
"It is my last time," Jackman confirmed. "It felt like it was the right time to do it. Seventeen years, I never thought in a million years it would last this long."
Jackman has portrayed Wolverine in seven "X-Men" films already, but his involvement in "X-Men: Apocalypse" still remains a thing of uncertainty.
