Asus' new and budget-friendly tablet, the ZenPad S 8.0, is now available in the U.S. through Best Buy for below $200.
Despite being marketed as a low-end model, the device packs decent specs.
Asus first unveiled the ZenPad S 8.0 earlier in June of this year during the recent Computex event in Taipei. As the latest addition to its ZenPad line of devices, Asus designed the S 8.0 as a slimmer and sleeker tablet as compared to the previous models.
For the U.S. version, however, Best Buy is offering the Z580C model of the ZenPad S 8.0. In terms of naming, this variant is different from the Z580CA version that was unveiled by Asus at Taipei.
Despite the difference, the specs listed by Best Buy for the Z580C is similar to those of the ZF80CA. Although Asus has not yet addressed the matter, GSM Arena noted that the retailer may have just been confused by the Taiwanese tech firm's naming conventions.
As for its features, the $199.99 ZenPad S 8.0 sports an 8-inch display with a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels. It is equipped with the 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z3530 processor. The device packs 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB of internal storage, according to Techno Buffalo.
For its camera configurations, the ZenPad S 8.0 houses a 5-megapixel rear camera as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing snapper. It will come with the stock Android 5.1 Lollipop, although the model previously unveiled by Asus runs on the 5.0 version of the OS.
Currently, due to Best Buy's promo, the Asus ZenPad S 8.0 is exempted from shipping fees. In addition, the retailer is also offering various protection plans for the device which covers normal wear and tear, accidental damage, power surge issues, and replacement of the device's battery.
The additional payment for these services ranges from $39.99 to $99.99, depending on the duration of the protection plan.
