Jimmy Fallon returned to "The Tonight Show' on Monday, July 13 after being missing in action for two weeks straight. Where was he? The comedian was in the ICU, recovering from a freak ring finger accident at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, New York.
His ring finger, which used to be pale white like the cast on his hand, is now pink. He said that he will not feel anything in his finger for another eight weeks due to nerve damage. During recovery, Fallon read a book entitled, Man's Search for Meaning by Victor E. Frankl and learned the meaning of life.
"This is the meaning of my life. I belong on TV and I should be talking to people who are watching who are either in an ICU, or wherever you are, at home. If anyone's suffering at all, this is my job. I'm here to make you laugh," said Fallon.
The host tripped and fell on his wife's favorite braided rug in the kitchen. He caught his fall and as he got up, he realized that he finger was sideways. Fallon described himself as feeling completely lame, thinking he had broken his finger. He said that his finger looked like a prop from a cheap horror movie.
"So my ring got caught on the counter top when I was going down and stuck there and pulled my finger off," said Fallon.
He learned at the emergency room that his finger was not broken, but he had something called "ring avulsion." He warned the audience, "if you Google it, it's graphic images. Don't Google it." Fallon met a doctor in microsurgery, who wearing a bowtie and cowboy boots and knew immediately that was the man who would save his finger.
"The nurses over and the doctors a Bellevue hospital, thank you so much for taking care of me. I love you," said Fallon.
Fallon also shared that he watched "The Duff,' which he said is the new "Mean Girls.' He loved the film so much, he watched it three times. He also watched "Real Housewives of New York.' Meanwhile, Higgins was in bed for seven days, recovering from Lyme disease. Fallon also shared that he is designing a new ring for himself.
