Fresh from her honeymoon, "Supergirl" star Melissa Benoist attended the San Diego Comic-Con to promote her latest television series, and shared some details on how she got physically fit for the role.

The actress really credits boxing and Pilates for getting her ready for her role as Kara Zor-El in "Supergirl." A lot of fans know that Benoist is more than capable of singing and dancing, thanks to her role as the talented Marley Rose in "Glee," but portraying a powerful superhero is a completely different thing.

"I don't think I've ever hit anyone before, and so I definitely had to learn technique - like how to actually punch someone and not hurt yourself more than you're hurting the person you're punching. And core work and Pilates and plyometrics, a lot of it!" she shared, according to Cinema Blend.

Another challenge Benoist faced was learning how to master the proper flying technique. The "Supergirl" crew used a lot of special effects to make it look like the superhero can easily zoom around the planet, but Benoist still has to display the right moves and facial expressions to make it more realistic.

It was a lot of hard work, the actress said, but when she saw the finished product on screen, Benoist cannot help but feel proud.

"The wire work is really difficult, but so fun. And when you get it right, watching the result is exhilarating. It's a really, really cool feeling to know what it felt like, the energy I had to exert to create those flying scenes. And then the way they look is really rewarding," she shared.

It was revealed only recently that Benoist has already tied the knot with her long-time beau Blake Jenner, who played her love interest Ryder Lynn in "Glee."

Benoist earlier said that they got along so well on the set that their on-screen chemistry came out effortlessly. And even though their on-screen personas had a short-lived romance (they went on a disastrously awkward date that never happened again), the same cannot be said for Benoist and Jenner, who are very much in love in real life.

The two even managed to go on a European honeymoon without anyone on to their marriage, even as they posted several happy snapshots of their trip.

Benoist and Jenner announced their engagement way back on July 11, 2013, and finally took the plunge and got married on March 2015.
