Jim Davis, a member of the Miami Shores Presbyterian Church in Miami, Florida donated $1 million to the Presbyterian Mission Agency (PMA).
"I believe sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with people around the world is the most important thing we can do as a church. There's so much strife in the world today because people don't know about the love and forgiveness that Jesus teaches," said Davis.
PC(USA) stated that half of the money will be used to build new churches in Egypt. It is estimated that "more than 70% of Egyptian Christians do not have access to a church." PMA will work with the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC) in Egypt to construct the new buildings.
"Our church's commitment to the Synod of the Nile continues in both good times and in more difficult times, said Kathy Melvin, the PMA director of mission communications to Christian Post on Friday. "We have seven mission co-workers assigned to Egypt, numerous projects in theological education, evangelism, health and education, and a large number of PC(USA) congregations that engage in on-going relationships with our Egyptian partner church."
The other half of the money will be used to support theological education in Cairo, Egypt. The funds will be used to train, prepare, and equip leaders and to support Evangelical Theological Seminary. The seminary is affiliated with the Evangelical Synod of the Nile, the Higher Council of EPC.
