The creative duo behind the reboot of "Vacation" has just been entrusted with another reboot. Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Sony Pictures have just chosen John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to write the next adventure of Spider-Man, which will now be played by Tom Holland.
Aside from "Vacation," Daley and Goldstein have also written "Horrible Bosses" and its sequel, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2," and "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," according to The Irish Examiner.
Holland's Spider-Man will be making his first appearance in the star-studded movie "Captain America: Civil War" next year, so there is still plenty of time for the duo to flex their creative muscles and write a script that would be worthy of the web-slinging superhero.
So far, only Holland and Marisa Tomei, who will be playing Peter Parker's doting Aunt May have been chosen to take part in the movie.
Both of them will be the youngest stars to ever take on the roles of Peter and Aunt May. The teenage web crawler was originally portrayed on the big screen by Tobey Maguire then Andrew Garfield, while Aunt May was played by Rosemary Harris (during Tobey Maguire's stint in 'Spider-Man') and Sally Field (in Andrew Garfield's version of 'Amazing Spider-Man').
Holland is an English actor best known for his roles as Billy Elliot in "Billy Elliot the Musical" at the Victoria Palace Theater in London as well as Lucas Bennett the 2012 disaster movie "The Impossible," which also starred Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. "Spider-Man" will be his biggest role to date.
Meanwhile, Tomei is best known for appearing in dramas such as "The Ides of March" and "The Wrestler." She is also really good in romantic comedies, having appeared in "Crazy Stupid Love" with Steve Carrell and Julianne Moore as well as "My Cousin Vinny."
Tomei will next be seen in the film "Trainwreck" together with comedian Amy Schumer, and is currently busy filming "The Big Short" with Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling. The actress has also dabbled in small screen projects such as the Fox hit "Empire," where she has a recurring role in the second season.
Meanwhile, Watts was chosen to direct the film because Marvel execs were pretty impressed with what he did to the movie "Cop Car," and they could see themselves working really well with the filmmaker.
Daley and Goldstein's "Spider-Man" will be released on July 28, 2017.
