Shortly after Motorola rolled out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for its Droid Turbo, a lot of users started experiencing problems with their devices.
According to some of the owners, the battery life of their Droid Turbo handsets worsened after downloading and installing the update, Master Herald reported.
Motorola officially released the Droid Turbo in 2014 and equipped it with the stock Android 4.4 KitKat OS. Then, earlier this month, the company seeded update 5.1 of Google's OS, skipping the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Even newer versions of the handset sold by Motorola came with version 5.1 as the stock operating system.
According to the update's changelog posted by Motorola, Android 5.1 Lollipop comes with a wide range of features and improvements for the Droid Turbo. For one, the jump from KitKat to Lollipop features the new Material Design.
Also, the update comes with a new battery saver mode that reduces background data operations for a more energy-efficient performance.
But then, weeks after the update was released, a lot of users complained about battery problems.
Over at the XDA Developers forum page, owners of the Droid Turbo voiced their concerns regarding the issues with the update.
"I haven't noticed slower charging but my battery life has been awful since the update," forum member mcdevil58 posted. "If I unplug at 8 a.m. with 100%, I have been at 40-35% at 2 p.m. with only 1.5-2 hours on screen time."
Aside from poor battery performance, some users also reported that they experienced problems related to app operations and memory management after updating their devices to Android 5.1 Lollipop. Others said that their device's Internet speed while using mobile data also decreased after getting the firmware upgrade.
However, based on the forum posts, it seems not all users are experiencing the same problems. Some noted that they haven't experience a decline in battery performance while others said that the update actually improved the operations of their devices.
Despite the conflicting accounts, the Lollipop update can be considered as a big disappointment for most Droid Turbo users. Since their devices are equipped with a powerful 3,900 mAh battery, they are supposed to enjoy 48 hours of regular usage or 28 days of standby time.
Motorola, however, has not yet issued a statement to address the issue or to offer a fix for the problems.
But, as a temporary solution, owners experiencing these problems can reset their devices' factory data or clear their cache. However, they must do so carefully to avoid bricking their devices or wiping out the internal memory.
