OnePlus has officially unveiled its latest flagship handset during a special virtual reality launch event on July 27.
Although the OnePlus 2 came with high-end specs, some users were disappointed with the handset due to its missing features, according to 9to5Google.
For one, OnePlus has decided not to include NFC support for the 2. According to the company, it decided to drop the feature since most OnePlus One owners were not using it.
Although NFC was not considered as a popular feature when it first came out, new services that are now available in the market rely on this feature. For instance, mobile payment services such as Apple Pay require devices to have NFC support.
Also, since the OnePlus 2 runs the Oxygen OS with Android 5.1 Lollipop, the company might miss out on a wide range of opportunities due to the absence of NFC support. It has already been confirmed that the next Android OS, the Android M, will launch with Android Pay onboard. Without NFC, OnePlus 2 users will not be able to utilize this feature.
Aside from this, the OnePlus 2 does not have wireless charging and Qualcomm's Quick Charge technology. For practical reasons, many new smartphones support these features.
It allows users to give their devices with enough power to last the entire day in just a short amount of time. Given that the OnePlus 2 has been dubbed by company as a "2016 flagship killer," the lack of these features is a huge letdown for consumers.
According to OnePlus, due to the absence of the quick charging mode, it will take about 3 hours and 20 minutes for the device's 3300mAh battery to reach a full charge, Android Police reported.
As for its specs, the OnePlus 2 sports a 5.5-inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. Its screen is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 4.
The device is powered by the versions 2.1 of the Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm and packs 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. It comes in 16GB and 64GB storage variants.
OnePlus' latest flagship handset houses a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, laser autofocus and dual LED flash. On the front side, the smartphone features a 5-megapixel snapper.
The device also sports a fingerprint scanner below the display which can read up to five different patterns.
The device is expected to be officially released in the US., Canada, China, Europe and India on August 11. Like its predecessor, only those with official OnePlus 2 invites will be able to get their hands on the device.
The 16GB version of the handset will debut with a retail price of $329 while the larger 64GB variant will cost $389.
